Nicolas Jackson's departure will see Chelsea almost complete their striker overhaul.

Chelsea and Aston Villa are on the verge of completing a double deal, with one player heading in each direction.

The two clubs have already done business this summer. Alejandro Garnacho joined Aston Villa on an initial season-long loan, while Morgan Rogers joined Chelsea for a club-record £117 million.

Rogers made the perfect start to life at Chelsea, scoring on his Premier League debut in the 3-2 win over Fulham.

But ahead of the September 1 deadline, Chelsea and Aston Villa are set to complete two more deals as each club looks to strengthen after varying starts to the season.

Chelsea have won their first two games in all competitions, after their 2-0 win over Luton Town in the Carabao Cup to follow the Fulham victory.

Meanwhile, Aston Villa were thumped 4-0 by Brighton and Hove Albion in their league opener, offering Unai Emery's side the worst possible start to the new campaign.

After Robert Sanchez's errors against Fulham, Chelsea shifted their attention to the transfer market to look for a new number one goalkeeper.

Emiliano Martinez has been linked with a move away all summer, with Juventus previously close to striking a deal, but the Argentine looks set to move to Stamford Bridge.

A deal worth around £7.5m has been agreed, and Martinez is set to sign an initial two-year contract in west London.

The 33-year-old is now likely to come in as the club's new number one, with Sanchez's short- and long-term future unclear. Mike Penders, earmarked as the future for Chelsea in goal, is also on the books, and Chelsea will likely not want all three goalkeepers at the club after the window closes.

Martinez will now undergo a medical in London on Friday to finalise his Chelsea switch, ahead of Chelsea's league clash against Brighton on Sunday.

Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso refused to comment on speculation on Thursday, stating: "Not really, because I like to talk about the players that are in my changing room and focus on them. It's not respectful to talk the other way."

After a deal worth up to £65m including add-ons was agreed, which will see Jackson replace Ollie Watkins, who is heading to Al Hilal, the 25-year-old is on the verge of leaving Chelsea after three seasons.

Jackson travelled to the Midlands on Thursday to advance the move and to begin his medical, while personal terms continued to be discussed and agreed.

Villa are in a race against time to get Jackson's deal signed off by 12pm (UK) on Friday, so he can be available for selection to face Arsenal on Monday night.

The Jackson and Martinez transfers will not only resolve two uncertain futures, but also bolster each side's squad for different reasons.
