U20 Women’s World Cup 2026: Portugal make knockouts after 3-0 victory over Costa Rica

In their first appearance at an U20 Women’s World Cup, Portugal today booked their place in the knockout phase of the tournament held in Poland after a 3-0 victory over Costa Rica.

A brace by Anna Marques and a goal from Player of the Match Carolina Tristão eased the Seleção to a convincing win.

After defeat in their opening match of the tournament against the reigning world champions, North Korea (2-0), and a goalless draw against Colombia, the three points and three goals were enough for Portugal to finish second in Group E, leapfrogging the Colombians on goal difference.

Marisa Gomes’ team will play Spain in the round of sixteen in Katowice on Wednesday 16 September.
