European football appears to be turning a major page after years of tension surrounding the Super League project.

An agreement in principle between UEFA, the European Club Association, and Real Madrid signals a shift towards unity, effectively bringing the controversial competition idea to a close.

For several seasons, the Super League had been at the centre of heated debates across the continent.

Its promoters argued that football could be run more efficiently by focusing on marketing strength and direct revenue streams.

Despite those arguments, the project faced strong opposition from governing bodies, fans, and many clubs.

Now, with this new agreement, it appears that the main institutions of European football are moving in the same direction once again.

Goodbye Super League

Real Madrid and the European Club Association have found common ground, reopening dialogue after a long period of disagreements.

The understanding reached between the two sides allows the Spanish giants to return to the broader structure of European football governance and work alongside the continent’s top organisations.

UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin addressed the situation after the agreement, making it clear that both sides were ready to move on from the conflict.

“We were all tired of these disputes and the only winner is football,” he said as quoted by Arancha Rodriguez.

He also spoke about his relationship with Real Madrid president Florentino Perez, suggesting that respect was always present despite the disagreements.

“We had disagreements with Florentino Perez, but we never lost the respect and love we feel for football.

“Let me be very clear: The only winner is football,” he added.

Lastly, FIFA president Gianni Infantino also reacted positively to the breakthrough.

He publicly praised Ceferin, Perez, and PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi for finding a solution that benefits the sport as a whole.

According to Infantino, the outcome is simple: “Football wins.”
