In recent hours, UEFA has voiced concern over the new financial rules adopted by the Premier League. The governing body believes these regulations could widen the economic gap with other European leagues.

Starting next season, Premier League clubs will implement the Squad Cost Ratio system. This framework allows teams to allocate up to 85% of their revenue to squad costs, including salaries and transfers. In certain cases, this limit could even reach 115%.

By comparison, UEFA’s financial regulations set a significantly lower threshold, capping clubs at 70% of revenue for those competing in European tournaments.

According to UEFA, the new regulations could further boost the Premier League’s financial might and intensify the concentration of top players in England. The Premier League already generates around a quarter of European football’s revenue, and nearly 40% of the continent’s highest-valued players are on the books of its clubs. UEFA fears this increased spending power could push clubs from other leagues to take even greater financial risks in order to remain competitive.
