UEFA sanction bars Olympique de Marseille fans from Istanbul trip for Europa League opener | OneFootball

Olympique de Marseille will visit Besiktas on Thursday at 21:00 without any travelling support, after UEFA closed the away section for the opening matchday of the Europa League league phase.

According to L'Équipe, the absence of OM fans is not the result of a decision by the authorities in Türkiye, who remain highly vigilant on security.

The closure follows a sanction imposed after Bruges v OM ended 3-0 on 26 January, in the eighth and final matchday of the Champions League league phase.

Pyrotechnic incidents were noted by the European body, and OM, already under a suspended punishment, were then penalised.

So far, Marseille supporters have had only one away trip.

They were barred from Louis-II by the Monaco authorities on 30 August.

Close to 1,000 travelled to Rennes last Friday.
