UEFA suspends FIFA boycott threat for a year, keeps pressure on Gianni Infantino | OneFootball

UEFA has suspended its threat to boycott FIFA competitions for one year. UEFA confirmed the move after a meeting of its member associations.

The gathering of all 55 members took place on Thursday afternoon.

On 30 July, UEFA had reacted to FIFA’s plan by saying no European national team would take part in any FIFA competition while it remained on the table.

Two days earlier, FIFA and its president Gianni Infantino had outlined a project, drawn up in strict secrecy, to create a commercial company pooling its main economic assets, including World Cup rights, in order to open equity to private investors.

Although the boycott threat is lifted, UEFA is keeping up pressure on FIFA’s president through a forthcoming criminal complaint in Switzerland.
