UEFA ‘to lift’ boycott of FIFA competitions after conditions met | OneFootball

UEFA is expected to lift its planned boycott of FIFA competitions on Thursday, according to The Times, after FIFA met two preconditions. It does not intend to ease pressure on president Gianni Infantino.

In late July, UEFA announced its intention to boycott all FIFA competitions after Infantino proposed opening the organisation to private investors, including some close to Donald Trump.

UEFA’s two conditions have now been met, with the project withdrawn in early August and assurances that similar attempts to reshape the sport will not be repeated.

UEFA is still weighing steps to push Infantino to resign. The executive committee meets on Thursday with most European federation presidents and is expected to discuss threatened legal action and the preservation of documents linked to the scrapped plan.

It will also consult member associations, many of which have withdrawn written backing for Infantino ahead of the March 2027 FIFA election. The Italian federation was the latest to pull its support on Wednesday. Aleksander Ceferin has said he is not seeking the FIFA presidency.

With the Under-20 Women’s World Cup beginning next week, ending the boycott carries added significance.
