Jamal Musiala has disclosed he is dealing with a neurological dysfunction after suffering two episodes in three days during Bayern Munich’s pre-season. Bayern’s honorary president Uli Hoeness, speaking to German broadcaster RTL, expressed alarm and pledged unconditional support.

He collapsed during matches on Saturday in Munich against Leipzig and on Tuesday at Heidenheim, both warm-ups for the new season.

On Tuesday the 23-year-old said the episodes are brief and temporary, are easily treatable, and that there is no additional health risk.

Hoeness said the club had long been aware of the issue and that neurologists overseeing Musiala see no contraindication to elite sport.

He added that Bayern convened quickly after the first incident and that medical follow-up is already under way. He said it is first and foremost a problem for Musiala, but one that could affect the club in the medium term, and that they were not prepared for it and must learn to manage the situation.
