Unai Emery backs Braulio Vázquez appointment at Valencia | OneFootball

Unai Emery has endorsed Braulio Vázquez’s arrival to Valencia’s sporting department while visiting the city. The Aston Villa manager attended Llíria’s Gold Medal ceremony for Damià Vidagany, the former Valencia communications chief now at the English club.

"The arrival of Braulio at Valencia is good news for the club, he loves the club and wants the best for it. He is going to devote all his professional knowledge to help the team get out of where it is," he told À Punt.

Emery and Vázquez previously worked together at Mestalla, the coach on the touchline while Vázquez grew into a key figure within the sporting structure and planning.

In 2011, Vázquez was involved in talks about Emery’s continuity, and the coach went on to renew his contract with the club.

He added: "Braulio, like me, is settled in Valencia, he a Galician and I a Basque. We are united by a deep friendship, our children played together in Valencia’s youth sides, we worked together and, after leaving, we have kept the relationship, meeting in Valencia to talk football."

Since his appointment at Mestalla, several former Valencia players and coaches have suggested it could be significant and help shift the Meriton-era dynamic.
