Unai Emery says Aston Villa remain on an upward curve despite a summer of upheaval, as they prepare to face Paris Saint-Germain in the European Super Cup.
According to ExpressAndStar.com, the head coach accepted they may not be at their best for Wednesday’s match, with the rebuild incomplete and several key players missing.
Speaking in Salzburg, Emery said the club’s commitment and consistency encourage him. He believes the work under way is sound and that they are responding well to change.
He highlighted shifts among coaches and players but maintained Villa are building in his direction and can continue to challenge leading sides in the Premier League and in Europe.
Villa remain in talks with Bayern Munich over a move for midfielder Joao Palhinha, and further squad changes are expected before the transfer window closes.
Crystal Palace have revived their interest in taking Evann Guessand on loan.
Hull City’s pursuit of Leon Bailey is again in doubt. The deal appeared back on last week, but on Tuesday Tigers boss Sergej Jakirovic described the situation as messy, said it was off that day, and noted its on-off nature.
