Carlos Corberán will name Unai Núñez in Valencia’s squad to face Espanyol if his transfer paperwork lands in time.
According to AS, the centre-back arrived mid afternoon at Manises then headed straight to Paterna for routine medicals. He met Corberán and his new team-mates at the training ground before joining them at the team hotel, where he will also stay.
If cleared, he would at least start on the bench. On arrival, the defender said he felt in perfect condition.
Corberán wants him close given absences of Diakhaby and Tárrega and the niggles Copete and Cömert have carried this week. The club accepts that administrative hurdles could yet thwart the coach’s plan.
Valencia are trying to speed the process. As it is not deadline day and it involves an international registration that Hellas Verona and the Italian federation must process with FIFA, they remain cautious about his availability.
To cover gaps, the head coach has called up six academy players: goalkeepers Vicent Abril and Pere Joan, and defenders Iranzo, Panach, Fontanet and Marcos Navarro. Abril and Pere Joan step up because Agirrezabala is injured and Rivero is suspended. Barring setbacks, Pere Joan will drop out of the final list and, if Núñez’s transfer is completed in time, Fontanet would make way.
