Chelsea paid £58m to sign the Belgian from the Saints, beating off competition from Liverpool, but things certainly haven’t gone to plan at Stamford Bridge.
Lavia has been plagued by injury issues and despite coming to the end of his third season at the club has only made 37 appearances.
Lavia has again had injury problems this season, but is back fit and started in the 3-0 loss to Everton before the international break.
The Belgian hasn’t been able to contribute much to the cause this season, with the Blues sat sixth and in danger of once again failing to qualify for the Champions League.
However, despite the difficulties Lavia feels the club are going in the right direction and even said the evolution since he arrived is what’s surprised him most.
“The evolution of the club,” he told Chelsea’s website.
“In such a short space of time, it has been unbelievable.
“There has been constant evolution in the levels on the pitch, off the pitch, the standards and everything has been going up, up, up.
“It is not going to stop. We are going to keep going up.”

Fernandez has been strongly linked with a move to Real Madrid, although it’s thought his long contract and asking price make a move difficult.
However, Chelsea have reportedly been asked to be kept informed on the situation surrounding Adam Wharton, although they’ll face fierce competition for the England international.
