Using their automated ratings over the course of these past ten months, Whoscored have produced this Under 21 Premier League team of the season.

Some Newcastle United stars have made the top eleven BUT it could have been a couple more, as you can see below…

‘The whoscored ratings use data from every single Premier League match, over 200 raw statistics included in the automated calculation of a player’s rating, weighted according to their influence within the game.

Every event of importance is taken into account, with a positive or negative effect on ratings weighted in relation to its area on the pitch and its outcome.’

The Whoscored Under 21 Premier League team of the season:

‘Elliot Anderson is the best rated player in the U21 Premier League Team of the Season following a standout debut campaign at Nottingham Forest. Brighton, Newcastle, Bournemouth, Southampton, Manchester City and Ipswich are also represented in the side.

To come into contention for this XI, players must have been aged 21 or under on August 16th 2024.

Bart Verbruggen may not have enjoyed the most successful campaign at Brighton but he features between the sticks in the U21 Team of the Season. The Dutchman made the 12th most saves (87) to kick off this XI.

Tino Livramento (Newcastle) – 6.68

The first of two Newcastle players to make the cut, Tino Livramento was solid at both right and left-back for the Magpies this season. The youngster finished the season joint-fourth for possession won in the defensive third (98) to contribute towards his inclusion with a WhoScored rating of 6.68.

Illia Zabarnyi (Bournemouth) – 6.78

It’s an all-Bournemouth centre-back partnership in the U21 Team of the Season, with Illia Zabarnyi good value for his inclusion in this side. The Ukrainian ranked among the top 15 players for clearances (179) to feature with a WhoScored rating of 6.78.

Dean Huijsen (Bournemouth) – 6.93

Dean Huijsen’s fine campaign saw him secure a high profile move to Real Madrid and it was deserved, too, with the Spain international finishing the campaign eighth for clearances (194). The 20-year-old also saw out the season second for interceptions per 90 (1.9) of centre-backs on his way to a WhoScored rating of 6.93.

Lewis Hall (Newcastle) – 6.93

Rounding off the backline is the second Newcastle player in the side. Lewis Hall impressed for the Magpies before his season was cut short in February owing to a foot injury, but he still managed four assists and averaged 2.4 tackles per 90 to help return a WhoScored rating of 6.93.

Carlos Baleba (Brighton) – 6.89

The second Brighton player in the side, Carlos Baleba excelled in the middle of the park for the Seagulls this season having returned averages of 2.7 tackles and 1.5 interceptions per 90. An additional three goals helped the Cameroon international to a WhoScored rating of 6.89.

Elliot Anderson (Nottingham Forest) – 6.98

The best rated player to feature in the U21 Team of the Season, Elliot Anderson won possession in the defensive third the joint-fourth most times (98), that also more than any other midfielder. Six assists was also among the most for a central midfielder in the Premier League as Anderson earned a WhoScored rating of 6.98.

Yankuba Minteh (Brighton) – 6.84

The third Brighton player in the XI, Yankuba Minteh was directly involved in 10 Seagulls goals this season, scoring six times for the south coast side, while the 20-year-old also averaged 2.2 successful dribbles per 90 on his way to a WhoScored rating of 6.84.

Mateus Fernandes (Southampton) – 6.71

The shining light in a dreary Southampton season, Mateus Fernandes quickly adjusted to the rigours of Premier League football to become a key man for the south coast side. The former Sporting man won possession in the midfield third 84 times, that ranking joint-14th in the division, level with Elliot Anderson and Alexis Mac Allister, while two goals and four assists in a dysfunctional Saints side was a solid haul.

Savinho (Manchester City) – 6.92

While Savinho started just 21 league matches, the Brazilian did enough in his debut season to land a WhoScored rating of 6.92. Even with a relatively restricted role, Savinho finished the season 12th for successful dribbles (52) and registered eight assists in a commendable debut campaign in England.
