Burnley boss Nicky Hayen has confirmed that on-loan Chelsea forward Dastan Satpayev is going to miss the next few weeks through injury.

It has been a very tough start to life at Turf Moor for the ex-Club Brugge chief, with the Clarets’ defeat to Bristol City on Saturday meaning they have picked up just two points from five games, with the side sitting bottom of the league.

Even though it’s early days, some of the performances have been concerning, although Satpayev has arguably been the one shining light.

The 18-year-old Kazakhstan international joined Burnley from Chelsea in the summer, and it’s fair to say he arrived as an unknown, with his only senior game time at club level coming with Kairat Almaty in his home country.

However, Satpayev arrived with a big reputation, and he was a standout performer for Burnley in recent games against Norwich and Middlesbrough, even though they ended in defeats.

Therefore, when the attacker wasn’t involved against the Robins, fans were fearing that a fitness issue had kept Satpayev out, and, speaking to the Burnley Express, Hayen confirmed the youngster is set for a spell on the sidelines.

“Yes, he will be out for a few weeks, unfortunately," Hayen revealed.

"It's one of the signs. Like I said, he had a pre-season but not a proper pre-season. We try to push players, try to protect them, and you just have to find that real good balance.”

Dastan Satpayev will be a big miss for Burnley

This is not the news that Burnley fans wanted, as Satpayev has been very impressive since his arrival, as he plays with intensity, pace, and he is always trying to get shots off.

Most would agree that he had been the best player for Burnley in recent defeats, and the team didn’t exactly look much better without him against Bristol City.

Perhaps the only positive is that the injury doesn’t appear to be a long-term problem, and with the international break taking place after the home game against Derby on September 19, the likelihood is that Satpayev will only miss three games.

Nevertheless, it’s still a setback for a Burnley side that will be seeking their first league win at Wrexham, before they face another Welsh side in Swansea on Saturday.

Burnley must improve quickly after dreadful start

Even without Satpayev, this is a Burnley team that should be capable of so much more after a very underwhelming start.

Hayen could understandably point to the transfer window and suggest he didn’t get the backing he needed, but there is still quality in this group.

The fans are furious at the way the season has started, and it’s ultimately a collective responsibility of the owner, manager and players for this poor start, which is unacceptable when you consider they were hoping to push for automatic promotion.

So, they must now pull together and try to get some positive results ahead of the upcoming break, even if they will have to do it without the impressive Satpayev.
