Liam Rosenior has just spoken to the media ahead of Chelsea’s game against Pafos in the Champions League tonight.
“The fact that I’ve come into a club with four games in four different competitions tells me the stature of the team I’ve come into,” the manager began.
“All of the players that I’ve picked today have impressed me… Filip was outstanding against Charlton. Jorrel scored against Charlton, he was very, very good, he’s an outstanding young player. Benoit and Wes, we know what outstanding players they are, and Malo has come back from injury.
“So I know I have an outstanding squad, and I know I have to use the squad to keep us fresh and fit.”

But there was one thing everyone wanted to know about – Cole Palmer. He’s been struggling since his return from injury more than a month ago, and Rosenior was very evasive about why he wasn’t in the squad tonight:
“Cole’s just missed out on this one. Hopefully he’ll be OK for Crystal Palace [this weekend]. He picked up a tiny little strain, and I mean tiny, more of a fatigue injury, in the last game. And we just want to make sure that at this stage of the season that everyone’s ok.”
Hmm. Every game it seems a new little issue is cropping up for Cole. It’s really worrying. We wanted him to be rested tonight for sure – we didn’t want to hear he’s injured.
The full team news for tonight’s game is in our post here. We can’t say we agree with a lot of Rosenior’s choices for this one.
It’s clear who Chelsea want to buy this January, but we can’t see a deal happening unless there’s suddenly some movement on the outgoing side too – and that doesn’t look too likely right now.
