Nathan Mendes anchored the defence for Vitória, his composure and interventions underpinning a 0-0 draw against Corinthians at Estádio Manoel Barradas.
Early on he set the tone with front-foot defending, twice stepping in to intercept and spring Leão da Barra forward. His reading of loose balls and recovery speed stopped attacks before they reached the box.
After the restart he kept Timão's wide players quiet, winning an aerial duel and timing two tackles to halt breaks. He also cleared danger twice when Nêgo dropped off, maintaining calm in crowded areas.
He finished with 51 of 55 passes completed, seven successful final third passes and 73 touches, plus two interceptions, two clearances and two tackles. It was a numbers line that showed how he progressed play without compromising Vitória's structure.
Because Coringão were funnelled outside for much of the night, his positioning and decision-making on the edge of the defensive line denied space for crosses and helped Leão da Barra control key phases without over-committing.
Leão da Barra remain 10th and Timão are 17th. Leão da Barra visit Flamengo in the Copa do Brasil next, while Timão travel to Barra in the same competition.
