Patience at the Säbener Straße is increasingly being put to the test. Dayot Upamecano has a contract ready to sign with FC Bayern – but the Frenchman is still hesitating. This is not only causing unrest internally, but is also raising the hopes of Europe’s heavyweights
According to consistent media reports, Upamecano has had a new contract offer from FC Bayern for weeks. This should secure the 27-year-old an annual salary of around 20 million euros as well as hand money of a similar amount. Head of Sport Max Eberl recently confirmed once again that Munich are waiting for a final decision from the central defender – without officially setting him a deadline
However, one thing is clear: every day that passes without a signature increases the risk of a transfer-free departure in the summer. Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen had already made it unmistakably clear at the start of the year that the current offer was the final one. There will be no financial improvement
This is apparently the sticking point. As the Abendzeitung München reports, there is still a need for talks from the player’s side – especially regarding the duration of the contract and a possible exit clause. Upamecano is said to be pushing for a clause that would take effect from the summer of 2027, just one year after a possible extension. It is also unclear whether the new contract should run until 2030 or 2031

This hanging game has not gone unnoticed on the European transfer market. According to Mundo Deportivo, both Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid are keeping a close eye on the situation. Both clubs are said to still be very interested in the French international
PSG in particular are said to be sniffing out the chance of a free transfer in the summer and would be prepared to meet most of the player’s demands. Real Madrid are also said to still have Upamecano on their radar, although their priorities have not yet been finalized
According to Sky, the hope at Säbener Straße is that Upamecano will make a decision by the end of the current winter transfer window – even if no ultimatum has officially been issued. One thing is clear: the longer the poker game goes on, the greater the risk that FC Bayern will lose control of one of its most important defensive players
The ball is still in Dayot Upamecano’s court, and with every day of hesitation, PSG and Real become a little more optimistic.
