The Latics have been linked with a free transfer swoop for the Wrexham star over the last few weeks.
Wigan Athletic remain in negotiations with Wrexham over a free transfer swoop for Paul Mullin.
The 30-year-old is contracted with the Red Dragons until the summer of 2027, but it's understood that Wrexham would be prepared to allow him to leave the club on a free transfer this summer.
Journalist Alan Nixon first reported Wigan's interest in Mullin on 17 May, suggesting the striker could be allowed to leave the club he's built his goalscoring legend at due to his excessively high wages.
In a new update on Wednesday, Nixon has reaffirmed that Wigan Athletic are still in talks with Mullin over a free transfer switch to the Brick Community Stadium this summer.
In the same report, he also confirmed that the Latics are close to securing a deal for Portsmouth striker Christian Saydee, who had previously been mentioned as a top transfer target for Plymouth Argyle.
Mullin made his fewest number of appearances in the 2024/25 season since becoming a Wrexham player in the summer of 2021, having turned out just 32 times in all competitions last term.
Indeed, the centre-forward made just nine starts in League One last season, with just three goals and no assists to his name, and has strongly hinted that he won't be a Red Dragons player for much longer.
Speaking in an interview for the Welcome to Wrexham docuseries via WalesOnline, Mullin confessed: "Just to play one game in the Championship with Wrexham would be worth absolutely everything. It would be the icing on the cake for this story and who knows where it could end.
"I've enjoyed every minute here, and if we could get to the Championship, then that'd be phenomenal. From a personal point of view, I don't think I'll have any part to play in it from here on in."
Ryan Lowe is understandably looking to bolster his forward options after a highly disappointing season in front of goal for Wigan last term.
Indeed, Wigan's 40 league goals were the fewest amount scored by any third tier team in 2024/25, with all four relegated clubs even finding the net on more occasions than the Latics did.
With 11-goal star Dale Taylor returning to his parent club Nottingham Forest, Mullin could be the ideal player to come in and fill the goalscoring void for them next term.
Despite enduring his worst season of his Wrexham career in 2024/25, Mullin is still only 30, and should still have a number of good years ahead of him.
He will also surely be desperate to prove the Red Dragons wrong for allowing him to leave if that indeed is to be the case, and will no doubt feel as though he has a point to prove that he's still the prolific goalscorer that he's built his name and fame upon.
Therefore, Wigan could be getting a really revved up and ready to go striker in Mullin, and that will no doubt be a scary thought for the rest of League One.
