The Addicks gained promotion in 2025, and survived in the second tier with a 19th place finish in the table, coming six points clear of the relegation zone.

Nathan Jones will be aiming to improve on that position over the next 12 months, with the London outfit looking to solidify their status at this level.

The Championship side have already added the likes of Karlan Grant, Danny McNamara, Ivan Mesik and Billy Koumetio to their first team squad this summer.

But they have until 1 September to complete any remaining business before the market shuts.

Jones will want to bolster the side between now and then, with the team targeting an improved second season in the second tier.

It has been reported by Sky Sports (12.17) that Nathan Redmond is currently training with Charlton as he seeks a new club.

The winger is currently a free agent, and is hoping to secure a move to the Championship for next season.

However, it’s believed that no agreement on a contract has been made between the former Southampton player and the Addicks.

The 32-year-old is looking to maintain his fitness as part of his training with Charlton, but no deal between the two parties is expected in the immediate future.

Redmond is available following stints with Sheffield Wednesday and Blackburn Rovers last season in which he made a total of eight appearances in the Championship.

He initially joined the Owls as a free agent in November amid the club’s financial struggles, but he departed after just a few months, with injury issues posing a problem.

This led to Redmond signing for Blackburn as they fought for their survival in the second tier.

However, he featured just twice under Michael O’Neill, coming off the bench in a 1-1 draw against Stoke City and starting a 3-0 loss to Southampton.

It remains to be seen whether Charlton will make an offer to sign the winger, or if he will seek a move elsewhere.

Redmond previously spent two seasons at Burnley and one year with Besiktas following his exit from St. Mary’s, but has struggled for consistent minutes throughout this period of his career.

Charlton will get their new season underway on 15 August with a home clash against Derby County.

Nathan Redmond should be a last resort for Charlton

Charlton are getting the best look at Redmond of anybody at the moment, so they will know his true fitness level, and what he’s capable of right now.

However, any move for him would have to be made as a last resort attempt to improve Jones’ attack.

The 32-year-old is now past his best, and his fitness issues have been a real stumbling block to remaining relevant over the last few years.

Redmond at his best would make for a very useful addition at Charlton, but there are no guarantees that he can get back to anywhere close to that level now, so the club are better off avoiding a deal to tie him down for the season.
