Torino president Urbano Cairo has raised doubts about the club’s willingness to trigger the buyout option for Kristjan Asllani in their agreement with Inter Milan.

During his latest interview via FCInterNews, Cairo urged the Albania international to ‘convince’ the Granata to hand him a permanent contract.

Last season’s Serie A runners-up spent a large chunk of the summer trying to offload Kristjan Asllani.

Indeed, new boss Cristian Chivu deemed the deep-lying midfielder surplus to requirements immediately upon his arrival in June.

However, the 23-year-old made it difficult for the Nerazzurri to move him on, rejecting multiple opportunities before accepting Torino’s offer.

Asllani turned down Rayo Vallecano’s approach, even though the Spanish side had a verbal agreement with Inter.

When it looked like the former Empoli star would stay at San Siro for another season, Torino swooped in to sign him.

Furthermore, the Granata included a buyout clause, worth around €12 million.

Yet, Asllani’s permanent transfer to Turin is far from a foregone conclusion.

Asllani has found his footing at the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino this season.

Indeed, he has amassed nine appearances in Serie A, becoming one of the cornerstones of Marco Baroni’s midfield.

However, that’s not been enough to convince Cairo.

“With Albania, he’ll go to the playoffs, just like we Italians,” Cairo said. “He had a good second half in the derby.

“We like Asllani,” he added. “We brought him in on loan and he’s doing well.

“It’s up to the coach to decide whether to play him.

“Purchasing him? We’re not even a third of the way into the season: we want to see him in action.
