Urbig to feature regularly for Bayern as Neuer seeks final European crown | OneFootball

Bayern Munich are planning for the future with Manuel Neuer planning to go into the final season of his career and retire next summer. 

From the goalkeeper's entourage, it is said that last season was the season Neuer enjoyed the most in his career to date, reports BILD.

Furthermore, the 40-year-old does not regret his decision to come out of retirement for the German national team at the 2026 World Cup. 

Neuer has decided to continue because he feels there's a big chance of crowning his career with another Champions League title.

From 2027-28, Jonas Urbig will be the clear No.1 and it has already been discussed with Neuer that Bayern prepare for his succession. 

The plan was discussed between Jan-Christian Dreesen, Max Eberl, Christoph Freund and Neuer before the latter's contract extension. 

Neuer does not want to block Urbig's development and will give up a considerable amount of games for his benefit this season. 

Dreesen also told Neuer that the Bavarian club's doors will be open for him after his retirement to take over a different role away from the pitch.

“Manuel is still one of the very best. He is absolutely world-class," said honorary president Uli Hoeneß of veteran shot-stopper Neuer.

"He can still contribute a lot to the team over the next year. Manuel has everything you could want in terms of character. 

“He is also a role model for the younger players. He is ambitious, and he remains incredibly important to the team,” he added.
