Bayern Munich are set to manage a phased handover in goal, with Manuel Neuer planning a final season before retiring next summer and Jonas Urbig earmarked for regular minutes. Bild reports that Urbig will be the clear No 1 from 2027-28, with the 2026-27 campaign used to bed him in.

Neuer has decided to continue because he feels there is a big chance of crowning his career with another Champions League title.

To support Urbig’s development, the 40-year-old will not stand in the youngster’s way and is set to give up a considerable number of games this season.
