Uruguay are out of the World Cup after two draws and one defeat in Group H, leaving Flamengo’s De La Cruz, Varela and Arrascaeta free to return after a 10-day recess.

According to Coluna Do Fla, the trio will miss Flamengo’s mid-season camp in Portugal, which begins on Friday 03, as they take a 10-day break that matches the rest period given to team-mates during the tournament.

That recess has not yet started, with the national team still together in the United States. The three will only begin holidays once they are no longer part of the Uruguay delegation.

The Associação Uruguaia de Futebol cancelled the charter flight back to Montevideo, so the 26 players will not travel together. Each will make individual journeys on commercial flights to their destinations.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side opened with a 1-1 draw against Saudi Arabia, then drew 2-2 with Cabo Verde, before losing 1-0 to Spain.

They failed to qualify among the best third-placed teams. Spain and Cabo Verde advanced directly, with Uruguay the worst of the 12 sides finishing third.

Bielsa started Varela in all three matches, De La Cruz came on in the second half each time, and Arrascaeta did not play after being injured at national team facilities. Flamengo have accused the Uruguay staff of causing his calf injury by not respecting his recovery schedule, with the playmaker already carrying a clavicle fracture.
