Fifa visits Rio giants for 2027 Women’s World Cup training, Flamengo declines to release Ninho do Urubu | OneFootball

Fifa has inspected Rio facilities and is negotiating use of Botafogo, Fluminense and Vasco sites for the 2027 Women’s World Cup, while Flamengo will not release Ninho do Urubu.

According to Globo.com, Flamengo judged it unworkable as the squad plan to train during part of the tournament, there was no fallout, Fifa accepted the case and talks continue over early access to the Maracanã.

Fifa has visited the training centres of Fluminense and Botafogo and is negotiating their inclusion for the 32 qualified teams. Fluminense’s base often hosts overseas sides, and Botafogo will receive the Baltimore Ravens in September for the NFL game at the Maracanã.

São Januário is being considered for eve-of-match sessions, repeating its role at the 2014 World Cup when Argentina and Germany trained there before the men’s final. The stadium turns 100 in 2027.

Fifa’s initial catalogue lists 38 training centres, with more to be added in a second version due by end of 2026. Offers are around R$ 500,000 for temporary rentals depending on duration, and US$ 200,000 per match at the Maracanã.

Over one and a half years, specialists assessed 261 venues across 52 cities in 19 states. São Paulo led with 45 sites in 17 cities. In Rio, Granja Comary and the Army Physical Education School are also selected.
