Oliver Glasner fears USMNT international Chris Richards could miss Crystal Palace’s next three matches because of a foot injury, according to NY Times.
Richards has been absent since injuring his foot in the Carabao Cup quarter-final defeat by Arsenal on 23 December, sat out the 1-0 Premier League loss to Tottenham Hotspur on 28 December and missed Thursday’s 1-1 draw with Fulham.
Glasner had hoped he would return to face Fulham, but the 25-year-old remains in significant discomfort after stitches. The foot is still swollen and the wound bleeds when he tries to put on a boot.
He could now miss Sunday’s trip to Newcastle United, next Wednesday’s visit of Aston Villa and the FA Cup third round tie with Macclesfield.
There is a more positive outlook that the problem could clear in time for Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on 17 January.
Jefferson Lerma has dropped into defence in Richards’ absence, though he may be required in midfield after Will Hughes suffered a hip problem, which would likely see Jaydee Canvot deputise instead.
Richards has been ever-present in the Premier League this season and has made 24 appearances in all competitions.
