On Monday, the United States women’s national team will play a match for the final time in 2025. As they did on Friday, the Stars and Stripes will play against Italy, and will aim to earn their second win in a row against the European side.

It is important to end the year on a high note since the NWSL players will go on a break, as the season is over. As such, it would not be a great feeling to end the year poorly.

Alas, the USWNT knows they can beat Italy. As mentioned, the team won the first game in Orlando 3-0. They dominated in possession, keeping the ball for over 68% of the match. They shionein the attack, outshooting their opponents 18 to seven.

The strong performance ultimately reminded Italy, a team that could easily turn into one of the best in the next few years, that they still have a way to go to compete with the top national teams.

This should be another good game to watch. Fans will want the USWNT to win. However, it would be great for Italy to be a little more threatening to give the players more of a test defensively.

The USWNT projected lineup

The players Emma Hayes started in Friday’s match all performed well. Some of them would normally deserve to start the second game as well. The issue during this window is that the team played on Friday and now must play on Monday. Hence, this is a quick turnaround for a window where they are only playing twice.

Therefore, it is expected that there will be a lot of rotation. Sure, perhaps one or two NWSL players will start again since they do not have games like those who play in Europe. Still, the lineup should look extremely different, which would make sense given how Hayes has experimented since becoming the head coach of the USWNT.

It would not be shocking for a defender or two to start again, and play only one half. There could also be another debut after Jameese Joseph and Kate Wiesner earned their first caps for the national team. Jordan Silkowitz might find herself between the sticks on Monday. It is clear that Hayes has yet to determine her three goalkeepers, so this would be a great opportunity to look at the Bay FC player.

USWNT projected Starting XI (4-2-3-1, from left to right)

Jordan Silkowitz (GK) - Izzy Rodriguez, Kennedy Wesley, Emily Sonnett, Avery Patterson - Lily Yohannes, Jaelin Howell - Jaedyn Shaw, Lindsey Heaps, Olivia Moultrie - Jameese Joseph

Italy projected Starting XI (4-4-2, from left to right)

Francesca Durante (GK) - Elisabetta Oliviero, Julie Piga, Martina Lenzini, Valentina Bergamaschi - Giulia Dragoni, Giada Greggi, Eva Schatzer, Arianna Caruso - Martina Piemonte, Cristiana Girelli

USWNT vs Italy prediction

Over the last few windows, many of the younger players have been very impressive with their performances for the USWNT. Whether it be Moultrie, Patterson, or others, there is no question that Hayes has multiple players to choose from in every age bracket. That is why the Stars and Stripes should have another dominant game against Italy.

However, this time, the score will be slightly closer due to the multiple changes in the lineups. Italy will probably rotate a little less based on their depth compared to the USWNT. But after playing the US once, the European side should be a little more prepared in their defense.
