Utrecht host Heerenveen in the Eredivisie at Stadion Galgenwaard on Thursday, 21 May 2026, with both sides coming off top-eight finishes and targeting momentum heading into the end-of-season qualification play-offs.

These teams have been hard to separate lately. The last two league meetings finished level, including 1-1 in February and 2-2 in Utrecht in September 2025. Both carry attacking numbers, with Utrecht on 55 league goals and Heerenveen on 57 across the campaign.

Utrecht arrive in form, winning four of their past five, a run that featured victory at Ajax and a 2-0 success over Fortuna Sittard on the final day. Heerenveen's last five brought two wins, two defeats and a goalless draw with Ajax.

Utrecht list injuries to Victor Jensen, Miguel Rodríguez, Matisse Didden and Ángel Alarcón among others. Heerenveen are without Maxence Rivera, Amourrichio Van Axel Dongen and Levi Smans.

Wide supply could be decisive. Utrecht have delivered open-play crosses at 27.09% accuracy and scored 13 headed goals, so balls into the box may test a defence that conceded 53 times. For Heerenveen, creator Joris Overeem (nine league assists) and scorer Jacob Trenskow (12 league goals) give Robin Veldman's side threat between the lines.

Utrecht finished 6th on 53 points and Heerenveen 8th on 51. With both in the qualification play-offs bracket, a strong result in Utrecht could set the tone for the post-season push.
