Cope reports that Valencia have reached an agreement with Cristian Rivero to extend his contract until 30 June 2027, a move Tribuna Deportiva trailed last week.
The Paterna-reared goalkeeper, out of contract in 2026, would remain tied to Mestalla for one extra season under the proposed terms.
The plan is for Rivero to continue as third choice next season, which could allow Spain Under-20 internationals Vicent Abril and Raúl Jiménez, who has yet to renew, to go out on loan.
Renewing Rivero also offers cover for pre-season, with the futures of Julen Agirrezabala and Stole Dimitrievski not guaranteed.
Agirrezabala’s loan from Athletic ends and Valencia are not in a position to exercise an option above 10 million euros. The only route to a stay would be his willingness, plus a potential price cut or fresh loan, since Unai Simón remains Athletic’s number one.
Dimitrievski was close to leaving, yet Agirrezabala’s significant muscle injury could alter the outlook. The North Macedonian will take charge in LaLiga from Saturday against Elche, and the club hold a clause to extend his deal beyond its 2026 expiry.
