Valencia CF has a rich tradition of elite goalkeepers, yet some signings struggled badly. According to Superdeporte, several cases haunt supporters.

The role is pivotal. Giorgi Mamardashvili arrived from Dinamo Tbilisi for about one million euros for Valencia Mestalla, seized a first team chance and has risen since.

In Peter Lim’s era Valencia spent heavily on keepers, not every arrival convinced.

Gustavo Campagnuolo, bought to learn under Andoni Zubizarreta, conceded six on debut at Salamanca, then two more against Real Sociedad. Claudio Ranieri’s faith ended there, eight against in two games.

Renan cost five million euros from Internacional, started with six wins in seven, then errors and a muscle tear saw César Sánchez take over. Loaned to Xerez, he conceded 61 in 35, then returned to Internacional free.

Timo Hildebrand arrived from Stuttgart but struggled, conceding 60 in 39 and losing his place. He then conceded six in two Supercopa de España games before joining Hoffenheim.

Miguel Ángel Moyá came from Mallorca for five million euros and started, but by matchday five had conceded nine and César reclaimed the gloves, then went four games without conceding. He later moved to Getafe, where he met expectations.

Jasper Cillessen performed reasonably but injuries and a faltering team hindered him. His 35 million euro fee and salary weighed heavily as Neto went to Barcelona, and after three seasons he joined NEC Nijmegen for one million. Across his first two league seasons he conceded 41 in 34, then dipped and Mamardashvili took over.
