Valencia have enquired about Lazio goalkeeper Edoardo Motta as they look for a new deputy after Agirrezabala returned to Athletic. According to AS, the club have finalised a two-year extension for Stole Dimitrievski, which is due to be announced today.
They are assessing several young goalkeepers who can push Dimitrievski in training and offer a serious alternative for the starting role.
The 21-year-old rose to prominence a few months ago by saving four of five penalties against Atalanta in a Coppa Italia semi-final shootout, sending Lazio to the final. His display sparked talk of a senior Italy call-up for friendlies with Luxembourg and Greece in this window, but an injury late in the Italian season intervened.
Motta joined Lazio in January from Serie B side Reggiana after Christos Mandas left for Bournemouth, in a deal worth 1.2 million. Expected to be back-up, he earned Serie A and Coppa minutes after Ivan Provedel’s injury and started the final against Inter.
With Provedel now back, Motta could again be on the bench, which may open the door to a move. Valencia already know his conditions and could have a chance, although no offer has yet been made to Lazio.
