Manchester City’s 114 alleged breaches of Premier League financial rules have put their transfer business between summer 2009 and winter 2018 under the microscope. Within that span, Valencia CF are the Spanish club to have earned the most from City, 73.5 million euros.
According to Superdeporte, Valencia sit ahead of Athletic Club, 65.3 million for Laporte, FC Barcelona, 48.2 million for Yaya Touré and Bravo, and Sevilla FC, 45.3 million for Negredo and Jesús Navas.
The first major deal came in summer 2010, David Silva moving for 28.8 million euros. The midfielder had lifted the World Cup in South Africa three days earlier and, despite Valencia finishing third, joined Roberto Mancini’s side.
Nicolás Otamendi followed later for 44.5 million euros, overlapping with Silva under Manuel Pellegrini then Pep Guardiola. The defender played more than 200 games for City, while Silva reached 436 appearances.
Valencia CF sold Ferran Torres to City in August 2020 for a fee above 30 million euros, but that transfer falls outside the period being examined.
City’s first buy from Valencia was Italian forward Bernardo Corradi for 2 million euros in 2006, when the club were not yet a powerhouse and their honours were modest by current standards. That precedent has since been repeated three times.
