According to Superdeporte, Valencia have made Arnau Martínez their top target, the player wants Mestalla and Girona are willing to sell. The stumbling block is sporting director Quique Cárcel's demand for a sum close to the eight million euro release clause.

This is shaping into a key week as Valencia try to hand Carlos Corberán a first-choice right-back before LaLiga begins on Saturday 22 August against Celta at Mestalla. The versatile Catalan is preferred to Chirino, who has a 15 million euro clause at Almería.

Talks last week between Valencia and Arnau's representatives moved close to a long-term agreement, around three million gross a year over five seasons. With the player side almost settled, the clubs are now speaking via CEO Ron Gourlay to lower Girona's stance towards a fee above seven million.
