With Real Madrid v Getafe still to close matchday 26, Valencia, under Carlos Corberán, beat Osasuna at Mestalla to strengthen their survival bid.
According to Superdeporte, Valencia began the round on 26 points, two above the drop set by Mallorca on 24. Mallorca lost at Son Moix to Real Sociedad, and Valencia’s three points move them to 29, five clear of 18th.
Of the bottom three, only Levante collected anything, beating Alavés at the Ciutat de València to reach 21 points. It still leaves them behind Mallorca.
Alavés remain on 27, two fewer than Valencia, and must resolve their managerial situation after Coudet left for River Plate. They visit Mestalla next in a key game, another home win could be close to decisive for safety.
Elche’s draw at the Martínez Valero did little to halt a dire run. Eder Sarabia’s team have dropped to 17th with only a two-point cushion.
Rayo drew with Athletic in Vallecas and sit 15th on 27. Their game in hand against Real Oviedo is due this week.
Sevilla fought back from 2-0 down in the derby with Betis and almost won. Almeyda’s side are 11th on 30, one ahead of Valencia.
Valencia are set to end matchday 26 in 16th unless Getafe produce a shock at the Bernabéu. Getafe also have 29 points, any result on Monday would put them above Valencia.
