Fede Valverde has sustained a grade three ankle sprain and will miss Uruguay’s upcoming friendlies, with Palmeiras midfielder Emiliano Martínez called up as cover.
Real Madrid said in a statement that tests confirmed the Uruguay midfielder has a grade three sprain of his left ankle, and that his recovery will be monitored.

The diagnosis came after the 2-1 defeat to Atlético de Madrid, and follows a heavy challenge on Valverde by Lee Kang-in in Sunday’s derby.
He will not play for Uruguay against Japan on 24 September, South Korea on 28 September and India on six October during this FIFA window.
Real Madrid have not provided a timeframe for his return.
