Virgil van Dijk has said he wants Liverpool teammate Andy Robertson to stay at the club as the defender continues talks with Tottenham Hotspur over a move to North London.
Spurs have approached Liverpool over a deal to sign the club’s vice-captain, with Robertson out of contract in the summer and out of favour this season.
The Scotland international has started just four games in the Premier League and is reportedly open to the move, as he looks for regular minutes ahead of the 2026 World Cup this summer.
Liverpool are prepared to grant the 31-year-old’s wish, while receiving a small fee from Spurs for a player whose deal expires in six months. A transfer fee in the region of £5m is being discussed.
However, Van Dijk said he wants Robertson to remain at Anfield. Liverpool lost at Bournemouth on Saturday evening, the club’s fifth consecutive league fixture without a win.
Speaking about Robertson, Van Dijk stated he is against losing an ‘important member’ of the dressing room.
“He’s my vice-captain,” said Van Dijk when asked about Robertson’s potential exit.
“Robbo is a very important member of our team and I want him to stay but whatever happens, let’s see.”
