Vander Iacovino leaves Corinthians after a year as futsal manager

Considered one of the great icons of Brazilian futsal, with a career on and off the court, Vander Iacovino announced his departure from Corinthians on the afternoon of this Wednesday (4), after almost a year serving as the futsal manager of the club – since February 17, 2025. According to information from Meu Timão, his departure was due to the need to reduce the payroll of some departments of the social club.

On his social media, Vander thanked for his time at Parque São Jorge, as well as the daily interactions at the club: “Thank you, Corinthians! A short stay, but full of achievements and accomplishments. I cherish the joy of having met people I will always keep in my heart, count on me always,” he said. Click here to check the post.

As the futsal manager of Corinthians, he saw the club reach all possible finals of the championships it participated in 2025, winning two titles (São Paulo Cup and Mucho Más International Tournament in Spain) and three runners-up (Supercopa Gramado, Paulista Championship, and National Futsal League – LNF). For 2026, the sport has not yet signed any athletes and, in turn, lost important players like the defender Marlon and the idol and pivot, Deives, who retired in January this year.

Since 2024, Vander Iacovino has been the Executive Director of Brazilian Futsal at CBFS (Brazilian Confederation of Indoor Soccer). At Corinthians, he worked alongside Bruno Vanço, the sport's supervisor. As a coach, he was a three-time world champion with the Brazilian Women's Futsal National Team (2010, 2011, and 2012), in addition to being an assistant coach in Brazil's victory at the FIFA Men's Futsal World Cup.

In 2014, he won the National League leading Brazil/Kirin in 2014. Three years later, as the coach of Joinville, he won the Santa Catarina Championship, the Brazil Cup, and again the National League of the sport. As a player, he was a two-time world champion with Brazil in 1992 and 1996, in addition to several club titles, one of them being the São Paulo City Cup in 1987, for Corinthians.

Amidst the budget cuts in terrestrial sports, Corinthians is expected to rely on athletes from its youth categories to be integrated into the professional team this 2026 season, in which the team will compete in: Supercopa Gramado, Paulista Championship, and National Futsal League.
