According to as.com, Iker Varela is close to joining UD Ibiza from Athletic in a permanent transfer that includes a buy-back option. Only the final details remain before the move is confirmed.
Varela is under contract at Athletic until June 2027. Alternatives were ruled out, including offers from the recently relegated Huesca and Cultural Leonesa, as well as Hércules.

Born in Barakaldo in 2003, Varela has come through the ranks before seeking minutes away from Bilbao.
Last season he was on loan at CD Mirandés in LaLiga Hypermotion, playing 16 league matches and two in the Copa, scoring one goal.
He started the campaign as a regular, but injuries and the team’s slide down the table saw his influence diminish at Anduva.
