Vasco, Admar Lopes and Felipe charged by STJD after row v Vitória

The 1-0 victory over Vitória last Wednesday, in the first leg of the Copa do Brasil quarterfinals, brought serious off-field consequences for Vasco. The Superior Court of Sports Justice (STJD) formally filed serious charges this Friday (28) against the club and five members of its board and coaching staff, based on the strong reports described in the match report by referee Matheus Delgado Candançan.

The list of those charged by the court’s prosecution includes Club de Regatas Vasco da Gama itself, defensive midfielder Cauan Barros, technical director Felipe Loureiro, football director Admar Lopes, performance coordinator Daniel Felix, and goalkeeping coach Nelcírio Franchin.

The articles and detailed charges in the STJD

The charges were brought under the Brazilian Code of Sports Justice (CBJD) according to the seriousness of the reported conduct:

Vasco da Gama: Charged under Article 213, items I and III (failing to prevent and stop disorder at its sports venue and objects being thrown onto the field). The match report noted that fans threw ice cubes and cups with liquids toward the officiating crew at halftime and on the way back for the second half;
Cauan Barros: Charged under Article 78, related to the straight red card he received in the first half;
Felipe Loureiro, Admar Lopes and Daniel Felix: Charged under Article 258, § 2, II (engaging in conduct contrary to discipline or sports ethics and disrespecting the refereeing team with insults/abusive language);
Nelcírio Franchin: In addition to Article 258, the goalkeeping coach will also answer to the extremely serious Article 254-A, § 3 (attempted physical assault against the officiating crew).

The match report that led to the charges

The official match document states that the commotion began on the way down to the locker rooms at halftime. Daniel Felix approached the officiating crew in a “rude and offensive” manner, accompanied by club security and the group formed by Felipe, Admar, and Nelcírio, who tried to break through the Military Police cordon.

The report states that Nelcírio Franchin attempted to punch the fourth official and had to be forcibly restrained by police officers. The referee also reported further complaints and blatant protests from Admar Lopes and Felipe Loureiro in the corridors of São Januário after the end of the match. The trial date will be scheduled by the court in the coming days.
