Vasco football director Admar Lopes questioned the officiating after the 1-0 first-leg win over Vitória in the Copa do Brasil quarter-finals, insisting the team were badly harmed yet still got the result.

According to Globo.com, the flashpoint came on 14 minutes when Cauan Barros, pressed by Renato Kayzer, handled to halt a break, and after a VAR check three minutes later he was sent off.

Vitória players immediately asked for a red. Vasco argued the ball had struck Kayzer’s arm before Barros’s touch, which also happened, but officials treated it as normal play and dismissed the protest.

Lopes also cited a first-half incident involving Spinelli, claiming a foul in the area should have resulted in a Vasco penalty.

He attacked the referee’s record, alleging a history of poor performances, and urged the CBF not to appoint him to decisive Vasco matches. He called for neutrality in the return leg in Salvador.

During the interval Lopes, Felipe and Bruno Lazaroni entered the pitch to confront the referee as he headed to the tunnel, before police escorting the officials intervened.

There was further disorder by the dressing rooms, where Military Police and BEPE pointed weapons at Vasco staff.
