Vasco are close to appointing Fernando Seabra as head coach after a late Wednesday meeting unlocked the final details, with a deal running to December 2027, according to Globo.com.

At 48, Seabra will leave Coritiba after a strong first half of the Brasileirão to take over in Rio, replacing Renato Gaúcho, who departed on 18 June by mutual agreement amid discontent within part of the squad. He is set to arrive with a backroom team of two assistants, a fitness coach and a performance analyst.

Vasco had reached a verbal agreement with Franclim Carvalho of Botafogo, but political and legal instability at the club hindered the deal. With no reply from the Portuguese within the set deadline, the offer was withdrawn.

Seabra then became the leading candidate. CEO Fred Luz contacted Coritiba through executive William Thomas to signal a proposal, and director Admar Lopes met Seabra to present the football project. The club signalled a pay rise of about three times what he earns at Coritiba.

This would be Seabra’s fourth Série A job after spells at Cruzeiro, Bragantino and Coritiba. This season he has overseen 28 matches, with 11 wins, nine draws and eight defeats. In the Brasileirão, Coritiba are seventh.
