Vasco have widened their coaching search and are assessing Renato Gaúcho and Rafael Guanaes, with an internal preference for the Mirassol head coach.
Following the sacking of Fernando Diniz, the board are evaluating different profiles. ESPN reports that the initial focus on overseas options has shifted, with the domestic market gaining momentum in recent hours to deliver a quick response and immediate reorganisation this season.
Guanaes is a young coach with a strategic outlook and an emphasis on tactical structure. He rose through the lower divisions and has built a competitive Mirassol side with a clear identity. His release clause is around R$ three million, a figure seen as manageable within the current plan.
Inside the club, he is viewed as a coach with room to grow, aligned to a medium-term project and at a lower cost than more established names.
Renato Gaúcho is among the most experienced Brazilian managers, a former Grêmio great who has won major honours, including the Copa do Brasil and the Libertadores. Despite his pedigree, he currently has less traction internally, is considered a more immediate and costlier option, and represents a different model to that favoured by part of the board.
Vasco continue to assess the landscape and do not rule out fresh talks in the coming days. Bruno Lazaroni remains in interim charge while a decision is taken, with the final call expected to balance short-term results with project stability and coherence.
