Vasco da Gama beat Cruzeiro 3-1 at Estádio São Januário to end an eight-match league winless run and climb from 19th to 16th.

In the 33rd minute, Tchê Tchê finished from close range to break through. Lucas de Freitas Molarinho Chagas then doubled the lead (55.) from a Lucas Piton corner delivered back into the box.

Léo Jardim made five saves as Cruz-Maltino kept Zeiro at arm's length, the goalkeeper's handling steady when the visitors pressed.

Late changes added punch for Cruz-Maltino. Substitute David headed in from a Ramon Rique cross in the second minute of second half stoppage time.
