A Vasco da Gama forward was targeted on Monday by searches during a large police operation against arms and drugs trafficking in Brazil. The club’s training centre was among the locations searched.

The operation involved around 100 officers, with four arrest warrants and 15 search warrants executed across five states. Investigators are also examining possible involvement of professional footballers.

The player’s home was searched as part of the same probe into a suspected criminal network.

The club said in a statement that the player is cooperating with authorities and is awaiting the outcome of the investigation.

The inquiry also covers alleged money laundering linked to the network under investigation.
