According to PaponaColina, president Pedrinho said on Friday 11 that Vasco had ended talks to bring Richarlison back after the 29-year-old refused to sign a long-term contract in Brazil.
Vasco had reached a club-to-club understanding with Tottenham on favourable staggered terms that satisfied the English club’s hierarchy. The stance of the striker’s camp, however, left no path to complete the deal before the window closed.
The sticking point was the length of contract. Richarlison and his family wanted a short project only until the end of 2026, aiming to move abroad from January, while Vasco demanded a definitive agreement of three and a half to four seasons.
To bridge the gap, the board were ready to include release clauses above market norms to ease a future international transfer. Despite the financial planning and the sporting project set out to the national-team striker, his entourage maintained its refusal.
With Pedrinho’s call, Vasco have stepped away and conclude the window without Richarlison. The forward is still seeking an amicable termination with Tottenham to settle his future in the coming days, but there is no bureaucratic route for him to play in Brazil this season.
The coaching staff now turn to the Campeonato Brasileiro and decisive knockout rounds with the players available to Pedro Emanuel. The board close registrations convinced they pushed budget and persuasion to the limit, and move on to the tests ahead in the second half of the year.
