Vasco hold talks to secure plan to host Boca at São Januário | OneFootball

Vasco have stepped up behind-the-scenes efforts to keep their Copa Sul-Americana semi-final with Boca Juniors at São Januário, focusing on a security plan to satisfy Conmebol.

According to Globo.com, the club will meet the Federação de Futebol do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (Ferj) and police representatives on Wednesday afternoon to progress the arrangements.

The talks centre on enlarging the visiting section, with a competition requirement of 4,000 away fans for matches of this scale.

A more viable compromise under discussion is a cap of 2,500 visiting supporters without increasing the stadium’s overall capacity, supported by a robust security plan to convince Conmebol. Boca Juniors would ideally have 4,000 away tickets.

The blueprint also covers logistics and safety around the arrival, stay and departure of Boca fans in the vicinity of the ground.

Vasco have not considered cutting Boca’s allocation at São Januário. The club also did not seek a smaller away allocation for their own fans at La Bombonera, where demand for the first leg is huge.
