Vasco da Gama are weighing a move for Gabriel Menino, a two-time Libertadores winner who is unlikely to remain at Atlético-MG in 2026. Bica Galo reports that the versatile 25-year-old, under contract until December 2028, has drawn strong domestic interest, with Vasco among the clubs in the frame. The Rio side are scanning the market to strengthen for 2026.
Vasco now face competition from Grêmio, and city rivals Fluminense have also entered the race. The tussle could drive up costs for a player valued for his ability to operate in holding midfield, at right-back and as a creative option.
Although bound to Atlético on a long-term deal, his prospects of staying in Belo Horizonte next year are uncertain. The hierarchy is thought to be willing to negotiate, either a permanent deal or a loan with option to buy, to refresh the squad and ease the wage bill.
Menino’s profile appeals because he covers multiple roles and brings a winning pedigree. For Vasco, the move would add youthful energy and experience to Fernando Diniz’s side.
The board are tracking rivals’ moves and weighing how best to table an offer that suits player and club. They aim to avoid any auction that would undermine financial plans for the season.
