Venezia ‘close to agreeing’ deal for Lazio midfielder Toma Basic | OneFootball

Toma Basic is reportedly close to agreeing a move to promoted Venezia, with his Lazio contract running down.

Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla reports that Venezia have made a decisive late push and the sides are close to personal terms. The Venetians won Serie B and are looking to strengthen Giovanni Stroppa’s squad.

Basic and his representatives held talks mid-season and he is said to have accepted Lazio’s renewal offer, but no response followed. Claudio Lotito and the hierarchy have apparently changed course, so barring a late twist he will become a free agent.

After limited opportunities in recent years, the Croatian revived his Lazio career this season, seizing a September injury crisis to impress. Maurizio Sarri described him as the team’s most important player in the first half of the campaign.

Basic joined Lazio in summer 2021 following a strong spell at Bordeaux. He also spent January to June 2024 on loan at Salernitana.

He has made 95 appearances for the Biancocelesti, scoring four goals and supplying five assists.
