Argentine says club ‘not in position’ to offer new deal as Andoni Iraola says there is no rush to renew

Alexis Mac Allister has revealed in a bombshell press conference he is yet to receive an offer for a new Liverpool contract, a situation he says has left him “very, very sad.”

The Argentine is into the last two years of his deal, and has been made to watch as the club handed Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai bumper new deals earlier this summer.

He confirmed his agent has held talks with the club and simply been told they are unable to offer a new deal at the moment.

Meeting the press at Kirkby before facing Atletico Madrid in the Champions League, Mac Allister made clear he could have pushed to leave the club this summer, but that he remains committed to the Reds.

“There was a chance (I could leave in the summer) as everyone knows. I received the news the club had made a decision not to offer me a new contract, which of course makes me very, very sad.

“Everybody can see I give 100 per cent for this club every single day in training.

“I have good games and bad games like everyone and I always give my best.”

Mac Allister continued, saying he felt left out after seeing new deals handed to Szoboszlai and Gravenberch, but insisted he has no plans to leave Merseyside.

“I see Dominik (Szoboszlai) and Ryan (Gravenberch) renewing their contracts and that makes me happy as they deserve it, but at the same time it makes me sad as I didn't get mine. But there is still time.

“The fans don't need to worry as I will give 100 per cent until the last day I am here. We will see what happens.

“There were options to leave this summer and right now, I'm in the right club and I have the right mindset to give 100 per cent to this club.

“It will depend on how I peform this year. It's (the club’s) right to make a decision. But fans don't need to worry as I'll give 100% and maybe they change their minds (the club).”

Responding to Mac Allister’s surprise outburst, Andoni Iraola added: “We all have responsibilities, contracts with a club. We haven't been together a lot of time but (Mac Allister) is very important and has played a lot of minutes very highly. We have time to talk about those contract situations.”
