Veteran defender suffers fresh injury blow after Barcelona return | OneFootball

After some very difficult years plagued with injuries and physical problems, things were looking to be improving for the defender Andreas Christensen lately. However, misfortune has once again struck the Dane. As MARCA has reported, he suffered an injury in last night’s game against Sevilla, and Hansi Flick confirmed in his press conference that he will remain unavailable for several weeks.

The problem arose during the 58th minute of the match, when he engaged in a duel with the Sevilla player Robbie Ure. Right after colliding with him, he asked for medical assistance. After a quick initial examination, the doctor quickly asked Hansi Flick to sub the defender out.

This turn of affairs left the Dane completely heartbroken, as he left the field in tears. His face presented a similar emotion as he sat on the bench. This is quite understandable, as he was finally looking to have gotten over his injuries, and also because this latest problem would not only sideline him for a few weeks, but could also have severe implications for his future at Barcelona.

Last season, he suffered an ACL tear, and missed a total of 32 matches for both club and country, and another three matches due to calf problems. In the preceding season, he had missed 37 matches due to an Achilles tendon injury, and another 16 with muscle problems.

The start to this season for Andreas Christensen was quite optimistic, as he played in seven of eight games played so far by Barcelona, starting four of them, and missing only the second game of the season, against Athletic Club.
