VfB Stuttgart vs. Augsburg preview: Hosts aim to extend perfect home record

Stuttgart

A 3-1 defeat to RB Leipzig last weekend ended Stuttgart's run of five straight Bundesliga victories, though Sebastian Hoeneß's side remain one of the league's most impressive outfits this season.

VfB have scored in 16 consecutive domestic matches stretching back to last season. And their defensive stability has been just as impressive. No team across Europe's top five leagues have conceded fewer home league goals than the one which Stuttgart have conceded.

The hosts boast a flawless record on home soil this season, winning all six of their matches - scoring at least twice in five of those outings. On Thursday, Die Schwaben secured a vital 2-0 win against Feyenoord in the Europa League, getting back to winning ways in the competition.

Team News

Ermedin Demirovic remains out, meaning Deniz Undav continues to lead the line. Many of Stuttgart's sidelined players have returned over the last week, including Dan-Axel Zagadou, who spent a long period out.

Predicted lineup - 4-2-3-1: Nübel - Vagnoman, Jeltsch, Hendriks, Mittelstädt - Karazor, Stiller - Lewewling, El Khannouss, Führich - Undav

Augsburg

Augsburg come into the weekend frustrated by their narrow 1-0 loss to Borussia Dortmund last time out. The loss against Die Schwarzgelben extended their run to seven losses in their last nine matches across all competitions.

Sandro Wagner's side have also failed to keep a clean sheet in ten straight matches, and failed to score in each of their seven recent defeats.

Head-to-head form offers little comfort for Die Fuggerstädter either. Augsburg are winless in their last eight meetings with Stuttgart, and have lost the previous five clashes without getting on the scoresheet.

Away from home this term, they have lost two and drawn one of their last three after opening the campaign with back-to-back wins on the road.

Team News

Augsburg's only doubt is Jeffrey Gouweleeuw, who is likely to miss out due to a knee issue.

Predicted lineup - 3-4-2-1: Dahmen - Banks, Matsima, Schlotterbeck - Fellhauer, Massengo, Rexhbecaj, Giannoulis - Rieder, Claude-Maurice - Kömür
